Son of Lucky Vega takes career earnings to nearly £600,000

Night in Vegas (Lucky Vega) sent off the 8-13 favourite £200,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes bidding for a third straight win in sales races having taken the July Course’s £200,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes and Doncaster’s Weatherbys £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes, travelled strongly towards the fore racing on the wing up the centre of the track. In command before two out, the bargain 60,000gns Tattersalls October Book 3 purchase who had also been fifth in the Coventry and third in the Richmond at Group 2 level stayed on powerfully to beat old rival Zigazig Ah (Rajasinghe) by 2 3/4 lengths.

“I kept saying I hope there is another song for him to sing, you do think that the elastic will pop eventually but I think he is a very good horse and I think he is improving,” trainer Eve Johnson Houghton said. “I like to start my good horses off at Ascot and it has just rolled and rolled. It has been brilliant. These races are really good and they need to be supported.”

“We are going to go to Champions Day [for the Qatar Racing British Champions Day Two-Year-Old Conditions Stakes], as long as all is well with him,” she added. “I think he will probably be one to run over seven furlongs or a mile next year. We will probably go to the Greenham, then maybe the German 2,000 Guineas.”

The unraced dam, who has produced the Listed-placed Shepherds Way (Dark Angel) and whose yearling filly by Minzaal is catalogued in the same auction that this money-spinner was acquired from, is a half to the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, July Cup and British Champions Sprint Stakes hero Slade Power (Dutch Art) from the family of the Phoenix Stakes hero Ebro River (Galileo Gold). She also has a colt foal by Starman.
