The Goffs London Sale without some input from Kia Joorabchian would be like the Royal Meeting without a procession.
The head of Amo Racing was on the front foot again, but restricted his investments to one filly, namely Kentucky Rain (Lot 5), a daughter of Lucky Vega from Lemos de Souza’s yard. She was originally purchased for €18,000 at Book 2 of the Goffs Orby Sale by Arthur Dobell and was re-offered, but retained by the vendor for €24,000, at the BBAG October Sale last year. The filly was then led out unsold for £58,000 at the Goffs Breeze-Up Sale at Doncaster in April. That decision looked smart after she ran a race of note to finish second at Goodwood last month, finishing strongly after being behind a group of horses, and even smarter after she was sold for £380,000 yesterday.
Alex Elliott, who has bought numerous horses for Amo Racing in recent years, said: “Kia knows Lemos well, and spoke to him about her before the sale. It was a very eye-catching performance finishing second first time out, and she’s going to get further in time I’d say.
“She’s the type of filly we could potentially take to the States. If she doesn’t win at Royal Ascot, she’s still got her maiden status so she could go and run in those maidens on either coast. Americans were second and third to us in the bidding, which suggests she’s an obvious one for there. She’ll be the third Amo Racing filly in the Queen Mary Stakes on Wednesday. We’re very pleased to get her.”
