Royal Ascot-winning Champion Two-Year-Old

Fast on the racecourse and even faster at stud, Royal Ascot winner Soldier’s Call has made a terrific start at stud, siring 25 two-year-old winners from his first crop, including Group winner Dawn Charger, and a further 22 in his second. The son of Gr.1 sire Showcasing stands his second season in Newmarket following two initial seasons at Ballyhane Stud in Ireland.

Bred by Llety Farms, Soldier’s Call is out of the Stakes-winning juvenile Dijarvo, a daughter of Cheveley Park’s high-class two-year-old Iceman. It is a family littered with speed and precocity, with Gr.2 Queen Mary and Flying Childers victrix Abeer noted in his direct female line.

Soldier’s Call was one of the fastest colts of his generations, clinching three Stakes wins at two, including the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot as well as the Gr.3 Prix d’Arenberg and Gr.2 Flying Childers Stakes. He took on his elders in the 2019 Gr.1 Prix de l’Abbaye, the only two-year-old in the field that season and bravely saw off a challenge from Champion sprinter Battaash before collared by Mabs Cross in the final strides.

Soldier’s Call remained in training at three, finishing a notable third to subsequent leading first-crop sire Blue Point in the Gr.1 King’s Stand at Ascot, prior to a titanic battle with old foe Battaash in the Gr.1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

“Soldier’s Call showed brilliance right from the start and was a joy to train” said his trainer Archie Watson. “He was such a good-looking colt with a wonderful temperament and attitude.”

Soldier’s Call made an immediate impact at stud, siring 26 individual first-crop two-year-old winners, led by Gr.3 Prix Eclipse winner Dawn Charger. His first crop has so far yielded a further five Stakes performers, with Soldier’s Call adding another three Stakes-performing juveniles to his tally in 2024, including the Gr.3-placed Kaadi.

Among the mares covered in his first season standing in Newmarket were the dams of Gr.1 sprinter Bradsell, Listed Marygate Fillies’ Stakes winner and Gr.3 Princess Margaret-second Betty Clover, plus Gr.2 Celebration Mile winner Ice Max.

With 112 two-year-olds to run this season, over 150 due to hit the track in 2026 and the backing of Yulong’s star-studded broodmare band, Soldier’s Call has plenty to charge into battle with over the coming years.
